Angels We Have Heard on High grew from a traditional French carol, Les Anges dans nos campagnes, whose roots reach back to the eighteenth century. The familiar English words are a paraphrase by English bishop James Chadwick, first appearing in 1862. Its soaring refrain keeps the original Latin, Gloria in excelsis Deo — one of the few phrases congregations still regularly sing in Latin.
Our Love to Sing choir lets that long, sweeping Gloria shine, making every singer love stretching out that note. It's a joyful highlight for carol services, school nativities and Christmas concerts.
