Few carols carry a story as gentle as Silent Night. The words were written in 1816 by an Austrian priest, Joseph Mohr, and set to music two years later by his friend, the schoolteacher and organist Franz Xaver Gruber. It was first performed on Christmas Eve 1818 in the little village of Oberndorf, Austria, to a simple guitar accompaniment. Two centuries on, Stille Nacht has been translated into hundreds of languages and named part of UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage.
Our Love to Sing choir keeps that peaceful, candle-lit feeling in beautiful harmony, making it a favorite for carol services, school nativities and quiet moments together at home on Christmas Eve.
