The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy

The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy is a calypso Christmas carol from the West Indies, most closely associated with Trinidad. It was first written down by Trinidadian singer Edric Connor, who published it in his 1945 book West Indian Spirituals and Folk Tunes, and its swaying rhythm and call-and-response refrain carry echoes of the islands' African heritage.

Our Love to Sing choir keeps that warm, gently rocking feel, so the repeating lines are easy to sing along. It's a joyful, rhythmic addition to carol services, school nativities and classroom music lessons.
